The Nexus Chicago container freight station is adjacent to the CSX Intermodal Yard in Bedford Park, IL. A private road connecting the CSX terminal directly to the facility allows Nexus to provide drayage services to the Chicago warehouse without touching public roads.
The Nexus container freight station is especially useful for shippers with “heavy” containers. With Federal and state regulations limiting the amount of weight allowed to travel over public roadways and the actual capacity of containers exceeding US roadway weight limits, Nexus can allow shippers to increase load capacity by up to more than 50%.
By shipping containers from port to Chicago via rail, customers can bypass public roads through the use of Nexus’ container freight station with direct terminal access. In doing so, Nexus customers avoid having to send smaller shipments in containers (not capitalizing on the maximum container capacity). Customers also avoid the need to unload maximized containers at the port and ship to Chicago in smaller-sized shipments (resulting in additional transportation and handling costs). The service is also an excellent solution for regulation weight containers.
Container Size | Normal Maximum Weight | w/ Nexus Container Services |

After a container is transported from the CSX Intermodal facility to the Nexus Chicago warehouse, Nexus can provide transload services, warehousing, and/or crossdocking services.
Transload services: This entails the devanning (unloading) of the product and the transfer of the product from ocean containers into domestic intermodal, less-than-truckload (LTL), or over-the-road (OTR) trailers.
Warehousing services: Our multi-client public warehousing offers flexible space at a variable cost which can expand or contract based on our customers’ specific business needs. Long-term and short-term storage alternatives are available.
Crossdocking services: Crossdocking allows clients to route product shipped in bulk from manufacturing plants and international origins for deconsolidation into multiple shipments for direct delivery to customers.
