Transload services entail the physical transfer of goods from one means or mode of transportation (i.e., truck, rail, air, ocean barge, or intermodal) to another. All Nexus facilities are served by major railroads and are equipped with a large volume of rail and truck dock doors to accommodate inbound product receipts. Nexus can receive product arriving in railcars, intermodal containers, and domestic trailers, and in turn ship product out via almost any transportation mode prescribed by the customer.
In the Chicago region, Nexus also provides transload services for “heavy” intermodal containers (containers weighing more than US roadway legal limits will allow). This is accomplished via our “Chicago Land Bridge”, a private roadway that directly connects the CSX Intermodal terminal in Bedford Park, IL to a Nexus container freight station.
Utilizing this unique opportunity, Nexus customers are able to fill intermodal containers to full capacity and transport them from international origin to the US via ocean barge, to Chicago via rail, and then directly to Nexus’ Chicago warehouse for storage, crossdocking, or value-added packaging services without touching public roadways.
