JAS Forwarding Worldwide Utilizes Nexus’ Chicago Land Bridge to Provide Savings to International Shippers

JAS Forwarding Worldwide provides a unique service offering to international shippers, allowing them to ship heavy containers direct from the port into Chicago via the Nexus Chicago Land Bridge.

Nexus & JASJAS Forwarding Worldwide, an international freight forwarder with 164 offices in 87 countries, and Nexus Distribution, a third party logistics provider specializing in full-service solutions for over 25 years, today announced a strategic relationship providing significant savings and benefits of the Nexus Chicago Land Bridge.

Nexus’ Chicago Land Bridge is designed to better connect materials from international origins to the metro Chicago area for distribution to the Midwest region of the United States. Constructed in March 2006, the unique attribute of the land bridge is that the half-mile long private roadway can be used to transport “heavy” containers, or containers weighing more than allowed on U.S. public roadways.

The land bridge allows shippers to avoid de-consolidation at the port of entry, and to legally ship containers that exceed the maximum weight allowed on U.S public roadways. For most shippers, this equates to a ‘buy-four-get-one-free’ savings, though it varies based on product characteristics such as size, weight and stacking ability. Additionally, the proximity of the CSX Intermodal yard to Nexus’ distribution center potentially allows customers to realize a reduction in drayage and demurrage fees.

Franco Lasagni, JAS Midwest Regional Vice President explains, “JAS is known for its constant focus on innovation and the heavy loads program offering from JAS Forwarding Inc and Nexus is a good example of that. The service provides a first class, seamless logistics process at a reduced cost for any importer. The program is most beneficial to large volume importers who can maximize the cost saving factor.”

“The Chicago Land Bridge has saved our customers hundreds of thousands of dollars in shipping costs since we opened it last year,” explains Mark Ferzacca, Nexus Vice President of Business Development. “We are pleased that JAS also recognizes its benefits and may be able to leverage our services to help its customers achieve similar results.”
