Nexus was pleased to attend the Intermodal Association of Chicago (IAC) June golf outing at Silver Lake Country Club in Orland Park, IL this past Tuesday, June 19, 2012.  Nexus attendees included the following:  Michael Gicewicz, Manager, Transportation Services, Chris Marek, MW Region Operations Manager, and John Masich, Strategic Projects Director.

The event was a great success with almost 250 golfers participating in the golf outing in total.

Various representatives from intermodal rail carriers, local railroads, steamship lines, trucking and drayage carriers and the Chicago Transportation Coordination Office were in attendance.  The event created an opportunity for intermodal professionals and shippers to network for a good cause, as proceeds were applied toward academic scholarships advancing the transportation and logistics profession.

Nexus’s own Michael Gicewicz served as the Chairman for this year’s golf outing, and we are proud to report that he will be serving as incoming Secretary for the IAC for the upcoming plan year.  Gicewicz’s intermodal transportation expertise has been instrumental in leveraging the value of the Nexus Chicago Land Bridge, a half-mile private roadway that facilitates heavy weight container imports and exports via the CSX Bedford Park yard and two Nexus transload facilities.  Giceweicz has also been visionary in expanding Nexus drayage services to support intermodal traffic in the metro Chicago area.

“The intermodal industry is still pretty young, and the IAC can play a big part in growing that,” Gicewicz comments.  “Being in Chicago, we are instrumental to the intermodal industry at large.  We try to promote awareness and create synergies across participating organizations continue to improve and grow the offering for shippers.”

According to the Journal of Commerce (, for the first 24 weeks of 2012, intermodal traffic rose 3.1 percent in the United States.  Canadian intermodal volume is up 6.9 percent year-over-year, and Mexican intermodal volume in the first 24 weeks of 2012 rose 19.5 percent from the same period in 2011.
